This is a redemption story.

WILDCAT is about Mary Todd Lincoln, who after being committed to an insane asylum by her last living relative, tries to prove her sanity with the help of a medium and her dead son. This film shows Mary Todd Lincoln as the extraordinary woman she truly was and explores the injustices set upon her.

The tone and genre is an absurdist dramedy exploring women’s medical treatment both in the past and present. It is a story of how grief can make sane people do insane things.

While this is a historical film, the themes of mental health, grief, and social judgement are extremely relevant. This forgotten story illustrates how the treatment of women for “emotional” issues continues to be misogynistic and damaging to women. It’s time for a change.
